If only patience they will have. To say the youth of today is only in tune with immediate gratification, sells an entire talented generation of dreamers far too short. Technology has introduced my generation into a faster world. One that we have had time to digest, to grow with and adapt and to learn. But imagine being born into a world with the speed of light & sound, where a song can be written in the morning and produced, recorded and listeners found on the other side of the globe, before the sun touches down. Its patience, not dreams that should be locked down.

Like A Bird – according to the soundcloud label – was recorded a year ago and to many, it is now a relic, an oldie, and should be bypassed for whatever new song an underground artists has recently posted. 350 spins (a milestone to be celebrated, but not retired) is the much more significant number, for there are millions of potential fans, that still have never heard this hypnotic recording.

The trio of underground recording artists: Lil Ken, Vez & Rayface – blend their voices and deliver their lyrics like seasoned performers. The throwback beat hits a rare melody, a rap song that can be played on high volume at the family reunion and everyone, from the youngest child to the patriarch, will find their way to the dance floor and allow the groove to move them. And the chorus: the raspy voice, the gospel undertones and the contagious words like a bird flying high I almost touched the sky add the brilliance to a pitch perfect performance.

The Underground is such a fickle child. On any given day the spotlight may shine on Sacramento, Miami or London, then the next it moves on to Philadelphia or Detroit or Boston. But no one saw this coming. First the discovery of Huey P Newton Reincarnated from Monroe than Lil Ken of Baton Rouge, the southern state of Louisiana may have the formula to seize control or at a least deliver the underground’s song of the summer.

Like A Bird. It’s like soaring through the sky, but instead of wings, it takes us on a musical vibe.
